There are two way to get accreditation for part of the CT Standard. Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) and Accreditation for Prior Formal Learning (APFL). It is also possible to make use of a combination of these.
APEL - Accreditation for Prior Experiential Learning
This is given for developing practice or by undertaking non-award bearing courses. I have chosen to go down this route with the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GCTS). To do this you have to provide evidence that you can demonstrate the CT competences and write a 10,000 word reflective commentary.
This route will only be available up until 2008.
APFL - Accreditation for Prior Formal Learning
This is given for existing cetificates and diplomas.
